Hi, I'm Shanna, a licensed psychotherapist in Mississippi and Texas with over 20 years of experience. I believe your mental health is just as important as your physical health, and you must take proactive steps to "keep it well." I strive to create a safe, peaceful environment where you are seen, heard, and valued. I am passionate about guiding clients to a place of healing and mental wellness, enabling them to live a more fulfilling and productive life. For over 20 years, I have worked with diverse clients in healthcare and mental health settings to help them achieve meaningful outcomes by using various therapeutic approaches that are specific to their needs. I want to help you, too! I invite you to schedule a free consultation today so we can discuss how you can be supported on your journey to healing and mental wellness.
I'm a lesbian therapist committed to holding a safe space for queer adults in Texas. I help clients navigate the complex layers of identity, trauma, self-worth, and relationships.
Thank you so much for considering me as your next therapist. I have been working in the mental health field for the past 25 years in a variety of settings and with various groups, and have been practicing as an LPC for the past three years.
I feel honored to work with clients who face challenges related to anxiety, depression, major life transitions and trauma. I thoroughly believe that healing can be obtained by anyone and everyone is worthy of discovering a life worth living.
My name is Dr. Juila Carter, and I've been practicing psychology since 2014. In addition to my doctorate degree, I am board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive therapy through the American Board of Professional Psychology. I have been serving our nation's Veteran's by working as a psychologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs for over 10 years, and continue to do this full time.
Through my work at the VA I've had the privilege of working with Veterans on issues including PTSD, Anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and relationship concerns. Working at the VA has also afforded me the opportunity to continue learning cutting edge treatment strategies including trauma focused treatments, stress reduction techniques, and DBT skills.
While my primary job has been working with Veterans, I have worked with a variety of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and presenting issues. I've helped people with anxiety disorders, depression, trauma history, and adjustment concerns, in addition to personality disorders and over controlled coping styles.
In addition to my clinical work, I engage in research on the cause and treatment of personality disorders, and supervise and teach students at the VA and local university.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and kids, and while we are currently pet free, looking forward to getting a dog in the next year. I love being outdoors when it's not the height of TX summer, and enjoy listening to thunderstorms when I get the chance I enjoy reading (Stephen King is my favorite) and watching TV.
I hold a Master of Arts degree in professional counseling from Amberton University and I've also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of New Orleans. I am licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and over fifteen years of knowledge treating individuals with mental health challenges.
As a resident of New Orleans, I endured the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina and understand how it is to feel hopeless and experience loss.
My training has prepared me to provide tailored counseling to individuals, couples, and children navigate challenges of marriage, divorce, and illness or loss of loved ones. Along with private practice, I have worked at behavioral hospitals helping clients struggling with challenges of depression, anxiety, and trauma.
