The idea that everyone or anyone has it all together, despite the occasional deliberately constructed appearance to the contrary, is a myth. The only thing that separates functional and dysfunctional people in society is self-awareness. Dysfunction is a term that is often used and cast a broad net to cover the common to the exotic, including anxiety, depression, phobias, paranoia, and post-traumatic stress disorder to name a few. Many come from dysfunctional families and are likely to repeat our parents’ dysfunctions or to manifest new ones as a result of accommodating them.
I believe everyone can benefit from having someone to talk to. As a therapist I enjoy creating an environment that makes people feel comfortable sharing their challenges. Through motivational interviewing I help clients discover solutions to their problems and help improve overall functioning while living with day-to-day stress. My experience helping clients with a myriad of diagnoses has prepared me to serve a wide range of individuals with a focus on unconditional positive regard and a collaborative therapeutic environment.
